The bold claim Tossakan makes on their menu — "It doesn't get more authentic than this" — might feel like a bit of an overstatement to anyone who has tasted truly great Thai food in Thailand. Still, the food here is certainly authentic, flavorful, and very-well executed.
It wasn’t our first visit to Tossakan, and it probably won’t be our last. This time, we stopped by for lunch on a hot summer day and ordered two bowls of Tom Kha Gung (coconut soup) and a Laab with chicken to share. It turned out to be more than enough food.
The soup was creamy and flavorful without being overly sweet — which is often the case in Berlin. The herbs and spices were well-balanced, giving it a refreshing, vibrant character. The Laab tasted authentic, and we really appreciated that it came with fresh chili heat right out of the kitchen. That said, we still couldn’t resist adding some of their chili oil for an extra punch and a bit more depth of flavor.
We definitely recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for a more authentic Thai food experience than what’s typically found in Berlin. The staff are always incredibly friendly and helpful, which adds to the overall great experience.
